Brutalist architecture is made of concrete that feels rigid and still. But what if those massive slabs could move—modularly shifting from one state to another? That contradiction fascinated me, so I set out to create exactly this—my first exploration with generative AI.

The result is a perfect backdrop for an urban club. At times it feels like an extension of the space behind the DJ—then it suddenly shifts to the beat.
Brutalist Flow includes six loops of Brutalist interiors flowing from one state to another.
The bonus Resolume project is packed with variations: light flashes, speed changes, trimmed accents, mirrored forms, and colorized versions.

Inside the Sentience Reward: Resolume Walkthrough
Sentience features eight VJ loops of a synth’s face evolving through different states. This overview video walks you through some of the mixes, loop-stacking, and mask modes inside the Resolume project.
Creation Process
For months, I wanted to start making AI-generated VJ loops. But with so many tools out there—each one promising to be the “best”—I found myself hesitating. Every new platform looked like it might be the one, so instead of creating, I was testing, scrolling, comparing. I was busy, but not moving forward.
Eventually, I realized I had to make a choice: either keep searching for the perfect tool, or commit to one and actually create. So I drew a line.
First and last frame into video—on Midjourney. Nothing else.
That single decision changed everything. Once I narrowed my focus, momentum returned. I finished and delivered my monthly VJ loop reward to my Patreon subscribers. More importantly, I proved to myself that it’s better to finish something real than to keep waiting for perfect conditions.
Brutalist Flow was created in Midjourney by generating start and end frames, then animating them in Midjourney Video. I upscaled and up-framed the animations in Topaz Video to 4K 120fps, then time-remapped them in After Effects so the in & out points ease in and out smoothly. Finally, I exported the loops at 60fps.
Resolume Arena Project
I brought the six loops into Resolume (v7.22) and started experimenting—adding light flashes with the Levels effect, creating slower and faster versions for different musical states, trimming impactful moments down to accents, and playing (way too much) with mirrors. Finally, I added some colorizing suggestions to invite a bit of industrial curiosity.
What's Next?
Creating VJ loops with generative AI was weird and thrilling. I think I’m going to keep going—exploring how AI can open new directions for live visuals.
